Moving Munchkins - Preschool Prep Program✏

A Back-to-Basics Program Connecting Movement + Early Learning

Moving Munchkins is a unique, research-based program designed for children ages 2–4 who are preparing for their Kindergarten journey. Created in 2014 by Andrea Schlegel (MED, OCT), the program blends early literacy concepts with physical literacy to support whole-child development.

💡 What Is Moving Munchkins?

Moving Munchkins is a back-to-basics approach that combines:

  • Early academic foundations (letters, colours, shapes, numbers)

  • Fine motor development

  • Fundamental movement skills (hopping, jumping, balancing, throwing)

  • Social-emotional development (confidence, behaviour, teamwork)

  • Structured routines that prepare children for Kindergarten

The program connects the “traditional ABCs” with the ABCs of Physical Literacy:

A — Active Body

Learning how and when to move the body with problem-solving and exploration.

B — Behaviour

Building confidence, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.

C — Connections

Developing teamwork, communication, and social awareness.
